Associate Professor Godfrey Mugyenyi Rwambuka

Associate Professor Mugyenyi Godfrey Rwambuka is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda. He holds a PhD in Medicine from MUST and has over 20 years of experience in maternal health, reproductive health, and implementation science.

His research and clinical work have focused on improving maternal and newborn health outcomes through evidence-based interventions and digital innovations in low-resource settings.

Prof. Mugyenyi has extensive expertise in the implementation of digital health interventions aimed at improving maternity care and enhancing maternal health outcomes in southwestern Uganda. His PhD research focused on the implementation of the Labour Care Guide in Uganda, contributing to efforts to improve the quality of intrapartum care and evidence-based obstetric practice. He is also a co-investigator on the NIH-funded R01 “Support Moms” project, which seeks to enhance maternal health outcomes through innovative digital and community-based interventions in southwestern Uganda.

A prominent researcher in maternal-fetal medicine, mHealth, and reproductive health, Prof. Mugyenyi has contributed significantly to research addressing high-risk pregnancies, maternal care systems, and healthcare delivery in resource-constrained settings. Through his scholarly work, he continues to advance implementation science approaches that strengthen maternal healthcare services and support sustainable health system improvements.

Leveraging his extensive clinical, research, and implementation science experience, Prof. Mugyenyi provides mentorship to doctoral researchers in maternal health, digital health implementation, and reproductive health research. At the AFHIRI Doctoral Research Progress Forum, he supports emerging researchers in strengthening research methodology, implementation science approaches, scientific writing, and the translation of evidence into impactful maternal health interventions and policy.
